Classification of Seamless Pipes
Seamless steel pipes are further classified into two types—hot-rolled (extruded) seamless pipes and cold-drawn (rolled) seamless pipes—depending on their manufacturing processes. In turn, cold-drawn (rolled) pipes are divided into two subcategories: round pipes and special-shaped pipes. Additionally, seamless steel pipes are categorized into several varieties based on their specific applications.
1. GB/T 8162-2008 (Seamless Steel Tubes for Structural Purposes). Primarily used in general structural and mechanical applications. Representative materials (grades) include: carbon steels such as 20 and 45; alloy steels like Q345, 20Cr, 40Cr, 20CrMo, 30-35CrMo, and 42CrMo, among others.
2. GB/T 8163-2008 (Seamless Steel Tubes for Fluid Transport). Primarily used in engineering projects and for fluid-carrying pipelines in large-scale equipment. Typical materials (grades) include 20, Q345, and others.
3. GB3087-2008 (Seamless Steel Tubes for Low- and Medium-Pressure Boilers). Primarily used in industrial and domestic boilers for transporting low- and medium-pressure fluids. Commonly available materials include steel grades 10 and 20.
4. GB5310-2008 (Seamless Steel Tubes for High-Pressure Boilers). Primarily used in power plants and nuclear power plant boilers for high-temperature, high-pressure fluid distribution headers and piping systems. Typical materials include 20G, 12Cr1MoVG, 15CrMoG, and others.
5. GB5312-2009 (Seamless Steel Tubes Made of Carbon and Carbon-Manganese Steel for Marine Applications). Primarily used for Class I and II pressure-resistant tubes in marine boilers and superheaters. Representative material grades include 360, 410, and 460 steel grades, among others.
6. GB6479-2013 (Seamless Steel Tubes for High-Pressure Fertilizer Equipment). Primarily used in fertilizer equipment for transporting high-temperature, high-pressure fluid pipelines. Typical materials include 20, 16Mn, 12CrMo, 12Cr2Mo, and others.
7. GB9948-2013 (Seamless Steel Tubes for Petroleum Cracking). Primarily used in boilers, heat exchangers, and fluid-conveying pipelines at petroleum refineries. Commonly available materials include 20, 12CrMo, 1Cr5Mo, and 1Cr19Ni11Nb, among others.
8. GB18248-2008 (Seamless Steel Tubes for Gas Cylinders). Primarily used in the manufacturing of various gas and hydraulic cylinders. Typical materials include 37Mn, 34Mn2V, 35CrMo, and others.
